This piece of work is a visual exploration of places along the east coast of England and the coast of Valencia in Spain. The absence of human presence in these places is what makes them appear extraordinary to me, as emptiness is not something that matches our understanding of coastal areas and holiday resorts.
This quiet period during the out of season months results in a forlorn and temporarily unused world and suggests a mysterious ambiguity. These elements of places closed off to human presence reflect a sense of loneliness.
These photographs are observations of such landscapes and of small details within the environment of places on the edge, waiting to be woken up, discovered and inhabited once more.
